Women’s artistic is a beautiful type of gymnastics to be involved in, whether you are an experienced performer or taking your first steps in the sport. You get to discover four separate activities, each one requiring a routine full of elegant moves that show off your strength, skill and control. Whatever your age and ability level, it is easy to get started in women’s artistic gymnastics.
As you are starting out, you will learn core skills and the basics of the four activities (the vault, the uneven bars, the beam and the floor). You will slowly build your strength and skill until you can perform some seriously breath-taking moves. If you want, you can even enter the competitions for your age group.

The Canadian Competitive Program (CCP) (Formerly the JO Program) was developed with the belief that all athletes must have a sold foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely to higher levels. This program is geared toward athletes who want to take their technique, commitment, training house and future skill development beyond what the other programs can provide. This program allows for athletes to advance at their own pace, competing in more that one competitive level in the year if they have mastered all of the required skills. As athletes move through the CCP levels more competitive opportunities become available to them including Provincial Championships, BC Winter Games, Westerns and National Championships. This is a program for girls with a strong work ethic who enjoy competing, want to develop high-level gymnastics skills and are committed to training 3 times a week or more. Artistic gymnastics at this level requires regular attendance, continued progression and long term commitment. This program strives to provide quality gymnastics in a positive, safe and enjoyable environment while supporting athletes in the physical, mental and social development.
The CCP program is comprised of 10 levels; 5 levels in the Compulsory Program and 5 levels in the Optional Program. Levels 1-5 are part of the compulsory program and athletes learn set routines on all 4 apparatus. These routines provide a focus on strong technique and foundation skills. At competitions all girls perform the same routine with the highest score going to the athletes that performed the routine with the best technique and execution. Levels 6-10 are part of the optional program and athletes learn personalized routines which meet the specific criteria set by their level.
Competitions: Provincial level competitions are governed by Gymnastics BC. These competitions are a good fit for new competitors and gymnasts who want to train for fewer hours. National and Elite competitions are governed by Gymnastics Canada and they provide opportunities for interprovincial and international competition. Gymnasts who compete at this level train for many hours and have a high-skill level. Their goals may include joining Team Canada!
Who is this program for? Athletes with a strong work ethic who enjoy competing, want to develop high-level gymnastics skills, and who are committed to training three times a week or more. The CCP program is by invitation or assessment only. Please contact Member Services to arrange an assessment for this program.
How do I register? Programs run from September to June (10 mos) with additional training options offered in the summer. Admittance into the program is generally for a summer of September start. You may register online or in person.
